Take-Two Admits Battleborn Didn’t Reach Expectations; Gearbox Will Still Release DLC

Take-Two and Gearbox’s hero-based shooter, Battleborn, hasn’t done pretty well since its release, and the studio admitted it.

The game’s performance came up in the first quarter earnings call, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, where Take-Two Interactive President Strauss Zelnick talked about Battleborn’s positive launch, but as far as sales go, the game “has been below our expectations.”

He continued to show Gearbox’s commitment to the DLC plans, in addition to the virtual currency, which are planned to come to Battleborn later this year.

“We think there remains an opportunity to grow the audience for this unique experience over time, and 2K will continue to drive engagement and recurrent consumer spending on the title through add-on content and virtual currency. We’re being very frank about where we are, because we’re a transparent company. We’re still delivering new content to Battleborn. Audiences love Battleborn. We still have virtual currency coming for Battleborn. We’re not counting it out for a minute. We’re just telling you where we’re at now.”

Will DLC, and whatever Take-Two has in store for Battleborn, be enough to revive the game?
