One of the things that distinguished Battleborn from other games in its genre like Overwatch was its lack of microtransactions. However, this will be changing very soon. According to a blogpost by 2k, the update tomorrow will expand Battleborn’s marketplace with premium and platinum currency and a collection of cosmetic content for players to buy.
The cosmetic content will include premium skins and taunts that stand apart from the previous ones featured in the game. The skins do not effect gameplay in any shape or form so buying them is completely optional. 2K is also considering bank spaces, loadouts, credit earnings, and XP boosts for future Marketplace expansions.
The new skins will cost 420 platinum each, and the taunts will be at 230 platinum. Platinum can be purchased with real money from the Playstation Network, Xbox Store or Steam Wallet and the price will be as follows:
- $1.99 for 230 Platinum
- $4.99 for 700 Platinum
- $9.99 for 1625 Platinum
- $19.99 for 3500 Platinum
- $49.99 for 9300 Platinum
Some people might be disappointed that Battleborn is going the route of microtransaction. I, personally, don’t really mind that much if it remains as cosmetics like skins and taunts. In the end of the day, I don’t have to buy any of them to be able to enjoy the game to its fullest. You can see how some of the skins look down below.
